SENECA BLUFFS TRAIL
Montgomery County, MD
SENECA BLUFFS TRAIL
The Seneca Bluffs trail starts from Black Rock Mill in the opposite direction from the Seneca Ridge Trail towards Route 28 and ends at Old River Road. Continuing acrossRiver Road will take you to the Potomac river and the C & O Canal path. It is an out and back trail system about 8 miles long. Be advised that there is a creek crossing midway through the trail which can be dangerous during periods of high water. Stepping stones are in place for a dry feet option. The trail follows the Seneca Creek along the ridge and offers scenic views of the creek below.
The Seneca Bluffs Trail was the result of true cooperation from a coalition of hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers.
Conceived in 2011, MORE volunteers worked tirelessly to get the trail ready for the 2012 MoCo Epic. In 2014, the club received approval to extend the trail an additional 2.5 miles to be ready for the 2014 MoCo Epic. This trail can be ridden as a simple out and back, or combined with the Seneca Ridge Trail (SRT) for additional Mileage.
The Seneca Bluffs Trail can be ridden as an out and back starting from Black Rock Mill or from its southern Terminus at River Rd. and Old River Road. The Seneca Bluffs trail and the Seneca Ridge Trail are often combines in the popular MoCo Southern loop, an epic ride that includes portions of Schaffer, Muddy Branch and the C&O Canal.
