Get Involved
As a volunteer led organization, MORE relies on people like you to get things done throughout Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. From leading rides and building and maintaining trails to putting on events, there is something for everyone. Chances are we are already helping out at your favorite riding spot. An added bonus to getting involved is the opportunity to hang out with like-minded individuals and make new friends.
Trail Work
Trail work is a huge part of MORE as an organization. If you ride trails in the Mid-Atlantic region, chances are they were built and are maintained by MORE volunteers. We have helped to build and maintain more than 900 miles of natural-surface trails in 63 parks across the region, and we are always looking for more. Interested in trail work? Check the MORE Event Calendar for upcoming dates. Questions? Reach out to MORE's Trail Boss at trailboss@more-mtb.org.
Ride Leaders
Being a MORE Ride Leader is one of the easiest ways to get involved. You don’t have to be a racer or expert, you just have to be a MORE Member in good standing, have reasonably good biking and communication skills, and enjoy having fun on the trails. MORE relies on a host of volunteers to lead beginner to advanced rides throughout the DMV area.
We are always looking for Ride Leaders that can show people around their local trail system or lead a weekend epic. Being a Ride Leader is a great way to introduce other riders to your local park, show them the proper line through a rock garden, or share your technique over a log. It is a rewarding experience and a great way to meet new riding partners in your local community.
Interested, but not yet ready to lead a ride? Try being a ride “sweeper”, who works closely with the Ride Leader to keep everyone safe and on the trail. Riders who are happy at a slower pace make great sweepers and are a critical component of a successful ride.
Feel free to review MORE’s Ride Leader Guide and “The Skinny on MORE Rides” and contact the MORE Ride Coordinator at rides@more-mtb.org for more information.
Events
Events like the Spring Fling, Winter Membership Meeting and the MoCo Epic are another way to get involved. You’ll be helping out and having fun at the same time. Events like these build community, and in the case of the MoCo Epic raise funds for the club that are ultimately reinvested in our trails. From new tools to materials, every dollar we raise goes directly back into improving the mountain biking in our area. Volunteering at events is a great way to give back and make a difference in your area. Reach out to our Activities Coordinator for more information at activities@more-mtb.org.
Club Operations
MORE relies on volunteers to help with the day-to-day operations of the club, including website maintenance, content development, newsletter publishing, social media management and marketing and many other activities. If you are interested in serving in a capacity that best utilizes your expertise and think you can help MORE please contact us.
