In September 2023, Wheaton Regional Park opened 2.8 miles of natural surface trail to bikes. These trails are a welcome addition for local riding and are well suited for newer riders and kids. The park is also adjacent to the Northwest Branch Trail with over 19 miles of trail. You can check out a 15 mile XC loop "Wheaton and NWB loop" on Trailforks here.
The Wheaton trails also serve as a needed connection between several other longer trail networks, creating the opportunity for longer XC, Gravel and Adventure Rides in the region. Riders can connect NWB (20+ miles mixed surfaces), Sligo Creek Trail (~10 miles paved), the Matthew Henson Trail (~4 miles paved), the Rock Creek Park Trail (19+ miles paved) and even further into Washington DC.
The Wheaton Bike Park, featuring blue and green gravity trails that with berms, drops, and jumps, opened in Summer 2024. Watch a video of the opening and a ride through of the Wheaton Bike Park by Sploosh MTB.
