MORE partners with Catalyst Sports, Montgomery Parks, Patapsco Valley State Park, and Prince George’s Parks and Recreation to make mountain biking accessible for people with disabilities. Through Adaptive Days, participants can ride adaptive bikes, receive guidance and support, and enjoy the trails alongside other riders.
Our vision is to create more opportunities that bring together riders of all abilities. In 2024, we piloted an adaptive course at the MoCo Epic festival, where seven adaptive mountain bikers completed the inaugural 5-mile route. Building on that success, this year’s festival will feature both 5- and 20-mile adaptive options. Thanks to our partnership with Catalyst Sports, we’ll have a fleet of adaptive bikes available and expect more than 20 riders to participate at no cost.
We’re also expanding adaptive riding opportunities across the region. In spring 2024, MORE received a Shimano Dig In grant to complete a 5-mile adaptive loop in the McKeldin Area of Patapsco Valley State Park. The trail officially opened in March 2025 and now serves as a hub for the park’s adaptive programming and MORE group rides.
Looking ahead, a major project is planned for Rosaryville State Park. With support from a Recreational Trails Program grant, we’ll upgrade 4 miles of trail to meet adaptive mountain biking standards, restore eroded sections of the Tilly and Perimeter trails, and add connectors to create shorter loop options for all users. Construction is set to begin in 2026.
