PATUXENT RIVER STATE PARK
Patuxent River State Park is a 6700- acre park along the Patuxent River between Brookeville and Mount Airy, MD. The upstream area is a 25-mile trail redevelopment project MORE is building in phases. Phase 1 of the project, completed in 2022, is about 7 miles of machine-built trail between Route 94 (Woodbine Rd/Annapolis Rock Rd) and Mullinix Mill Rd. There are trails on both sides of the river and parking areas on both roads. We have a $100K grant for Phase 2a, another 2.5 miles of trail heading upstream to Long Corner Rd on the Montgomery County side of the river. In addition, the state is building a new parking lot on Woodbine Rd that will accommodate 30 cars and 10 horse trailers. Both the new trail and parking lot are scheduled to be completed in 2025.
This trail system has a mix of punchy climbs, fast descents, bermed turns, smooth flowy sections, and some rock features. There are lots of river views and relatively few trail users. There is one creek crossing that is rideable and walkable, but your feet may get a little wet. These are really fun trails, and we are just getting started!

* When donating to a specific trail system MORE will endeavor to use your donation as it was designated, but under extenuating circumstances may assign the funds to other trails/projects in consultation with the appropriate trail liaison or project leader in such cases as, including but not limited to, the closure of the park, failure of the project to move forward, completion of the project under budget, extended periods of inactivity and/or other factors limiting the ability to apply the funds to the original intended designation.
The trails at Pax are suitable for riders of all abilities but may include sections more suitable for intermediate to advanced riders. MORE subscribes to IMBA's trail difficulty ratings
To date, we have raised over $100k in funds, mostly from RTP grants, but we also have received donations from other clubs (MCRRC) and businesses (REI, Competitive Power Ventures, and Wells Fargo Bank). And we are thrilled to be a part of IMBA's national Dig In fundraiser, where we raised over $2000 towards trail construction!
