Executive Director Report (Jali)

o Supported the Locust Shade Ride & Picnic

  • Plan to sell swag at future picnics and events

  • Edited BikeReg on picnic events, to encourage people to bring food items to the picnics

  • Propose to advertise the picnics as for members, sponsors, and perspective members/ people looking to get involved in the mountain biking community

o Planned and organized the AACo Epic

  • 141 people pre-registered, 9 people day of registrations

  • Issues with GPS navigation. County didn’t allow us to put stakes in the ground or staple signs to trees. Need to brainstorm solutions for next year (chalk, paint, get permission for stakes)

  • Discussion on moving the event to an earlier month for cooler temperatures, and as a “season opening event”. April or May? Quantico epic in April is no longer going to happen, so this could take place of that.

  • Fair ground location was nice- better than renting large MoCo tent and porta johns

Membership Update (Rob)

  • ~$700 behind for the month, but membership numbers continue to rise (2048 members)

Trails

Virginia (Michael)

  • Edgar Tillett – solidifying date to start (Brock to do work). Waiting on bid from Brock. Will get dirt for free once we know when we can start the job.

  • Locust Shade – waiting on MOU

  • Lake FX – continuing to work on jump line

  • Wakefield – initial work of bridge work happened during W@W timeframe. No dates yet for future work.

  • James Long – 3 parts; 1 part (black) is completed. Green and blue still need to be done. Boy Scouts project will do a trail kiosk.

  • FH – maintenance

  • New liaisons at Meadowood, Mt Vernon

Maryland (Dave M)

  • Frederick Hill St pump track - SHA review of project; will happen but in pause currently

  • Emmitsburg – support from town to develop trails near town, could be a NICA race loop in ~2 years

  • Little Bennett – liaison Matt Macnish (sp?) is stepping down (*post in newsletter looking for a liaison)

  • West MoCo project – ¾ legislators came out to look at sidewalk and were pleased. Discussed parking lot near Seneca creek and build an additional 3mi of trails, and another bridge

  • New shed at Schaeffer

  • Purchased all the lumber for 2 bridges covered by grant

  • 2 horses put their hooves through 6year old boards on bridges, which has caused some hold back from building bridges. ASTA and ASTB standards. CCA is a carcinogen. Advise liaisons not to buy wood that will rot in 6years. Discussion on not approving liaison expenses that don’t use long lasting lumber.

  • Brock will do re-routes on Seneca Greenway for MoCo epic routes

  • Retro fitting bridges; 2 on greenway are too narrow for bikes

  • Patuxent – grant project, phase 2A is done. August 8th celebration, including Senator that helped get the funding.

  • Ideas for Montgomery parks to spend their extra money; hire more staff, features, banked turns, rollers, etc.

  • Crownsville Memorial Hospital Park – got clearance on bridges, waiting for county permits on bridge designs. Probably this winter bridges can be built.

  • Rosaryville re-furb – SHA ... more bureaucracy. *Liaison is leaving and need to advertise position

  • Michael suggests reaching out to Harry Hill/MMB re liaison, PG county projects and need for volunteers

Ride Program Update (Kathy)

  • MoCo epic is a fundraising event

  • Dave M – 50/50 split trail and general funds. How much staff time do we allocate to the epics?

  • Jali & Dave M – money raised at picnics shouldn’t go to the trail systems at the location where the picnic took place. The money should go to the general fund
