Excellent Recognition for MORE
MORE and several other trail volunteer groups were formally thanked by the Montgomery County Council for our volunteer work on natural trails. Volunteers logged 6000 hours of trailwork on county trails in 2015 and many of them were by MORE members. MORE members Dave Scull, Joe Fritsch, Rick Meyer and Dave Magill attended a breakfast and a proclamation ceremony at the County Council building in Rockville. Parks and Planning Board chairman Casey Anderson said “many groups come before the county council to ask for new facilities or programs in the county. Only the natural trail volunteer groups also say “and we will build them and maintain them for the county for free!””.
The County Council also approved $350,000 per year for the next six years in the county’s capital budget for natural trail construction and maintenance. The county has three full time trail builders and three trail building machines. And the first major new machine built trail in MoCo was just opened, Black Hills West!
