SCHAEFFER FARM
Montgomery County, MD
SCHAFFER FARM
Schaeffer Farm is the hub of a trail system unique in Maryland and was one of the first mountain bike trail systems developed and maintained by MORE starting in 1994.
The trails at Seneca Creek State Park provide the backbone of a network that extends into most of the upcounty area. Configured in a series of loops, you can enjoy as few as four miles or go for an all-day adventure. It is possible to do a trail loop stretching 60 miles or more when you leave the trailhead. Linking the Seneca, Muddy Branch, and Potomac watersheds, visitors can journey from Schaeffer to Damascus to the Potomac and back.
One of these larger loops has been recognized by the International Mountain Bicycling Association as one of the best and most important routes in the country.

I WENT ON THIS TRAIL FOR MY FIRST TIME RIDING MTB AND IT WAS ESSEY A LOT OF TRAILS TO CHOOSE FROM. SOME WATER CROSINGS WICH ARE FUN FOR KIDS. THERE ARE SOME JUMPS TOO AND MAN MADE OPSTICALS.
I remember when Schaffer was first flagged and the talk of the possibilities it could bring to Montgomery County and riding in the DC region. Fast forward 25 years and Schaffer has become all that was promised, and MORE! The trails are fun and the center point for what could be a short ride or an all out epic. Classic MoCo singletrack, fast and smooth with plenty of roots and other natural features to make it interesting for riders of all abilities. I love starting at Schaffer and then hitting the SRT or Seneca Bluffs trails for the 40 mile MoCo South loop. Or heading out to Hoyles Mill, and back to Schaffer along the Diabase trail for a shorter spin around the Yellow. So many choices...
