LOCUST SHADE PARK

Triangle, VA

Snow Storm Update

Sawyer crews were out this weekend (1/8 - 1/9) clearing the trail corridor and, while they have made a considerable impact, there is still a ton of work left to do. As of Sunday 1/9 The Col Du Shade, Atomic and the Palmer Trail (power line loop) remain impassable.

PLEASE avoid the trails until crews have had a chance to get to them. The freeze/thaw cycle is also in full effect and the melting snow will soon begin (already has) to have an impact on the trail tread.

If you do go out, please try and do so when the trail tread is frozen (it won't be dry for a while) and PLEASE be safe. There are still lots of precariously hanging branches and a lot debris on the actual corridor.

For the most up tp date info please check The Locust Shade Project on Facebook.

October 2021 Update
95th Street was soft opened to the public in mid October. The new Upper Advanced Trail has multiple progressive features for riders of all abilities. Go enjoy this new regional playground. Locust Shade is a small county park with diverse terrain situated along Prince William County’s Southern portion of the Potomac Heritage Trail Corridor. With county approval, MORE recently completed the build of an advanced 1.2 mile trail extension. In addition, MORE volunteers are in the process of building and finishing a 1.1 mile beginner trails that will replace multiple fall line sections of trail.

Locust Shade will provide an anchor for the Potomac Heritage Trail and provide connectivity to other nearby popular trail systems, including those aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico (Quantico MTB Club) and the trails in Prince William Forest Park (NPS).

Funding will provide necessary materials for multiple bridges and for the necessary expertise to build the desired trail system, please use the Donate Now Form on this page to help us make these trails become a reality.
