FOUNTAINHEAD REGIONAL PARK

Originally conceived by a band of riders from MORE in early 1994, and redesigned with the International Mountain Biking Organization (IMBA) in 2010–2012, the new Fountainhead Trail is challenging, fun, and an incredibly rewarding system of trails.

The once straight and steep climbs and downhills that crossed the park have been replaced with challenging switchbacks and screaming berms. Fountainhead is a glorious playground in which to take your mountain biking skills to the next level.

GETTING THERE

TAKE ACTION - DONATE NOW!

Donations made directly through this page go directly to the selected trails system and help MORE and its trail liaisons purchase materials, tools and hire the expertise necessary to help us maintain and sustain world class trails in the Washington DC Metropolitan region.

DONATE

* When donating to a specific trail system MORE will endeavor to use your donation as it was designated, but under extenuating circumstances may assign the funds to other trails/projects in consultation with the appropriate trail liaison or project leader in such cases as, including but not limited to, the closure of the park, failure of the project to move forward, completion of the project under budget, extended periods of inactivity and/or other factors limiting the ability to apply the funds to the original intended designation.

Fountainhead is a stacked trail system and includes trails for all ability levels. That said, beginners should use extreme caution, even in the beginner green loop. The blue and black loops are suitable for riders of intermediate and advanced abilities respectively. MORE subscribes to IMBA's trail difficulty ratings

MORE Volunteers donated 90 hours of their time during 2018 to help maintain the trails at Fountainhead Regional Park.

Great trail system but other trails are catching up by adding features
Written by Mark on 1/25/2023

Lets get some skills features added to the system. The few features are falling into disrepair so I feel my donation does not reach the place I enjoy the most.

Work for the Flow
Written by Zain on 6/17/2022

Take your time with the system, and pace yourself on the climbs, and take breaks. The directional, bike-only nature of this trail encourages you to keep pushing, which can wear you out and lead to a bad time, but if you take breaks, you'll enjoy the TTFs and find flow.

Great trail system
Written by Dan I. on 6/8/2022

Like several reviews stated prior there are some technical features at the start but they can be easily avoided. As you go deeper into the trail system the more fun it seems to get the green loop can made very fun with speed. Blue and black are just plain fun. Definitely recommend.

NOT FOR BEGINNERS

Fountainhead is the only mountain bike only trail in the Region ! Please educate people about all the rest of the MANY trails, that are great for beginners!

One of my favorites

Love this place! there is something for everyone in the stacked loop system. If you are short on time you can do just the Green and blue loops, or if you have plenty of time venture out into the advanced black loop. Great views of the Occoquan and lots of great trail features to keep one happy.
