Volunteer Positions Responsibilities
- MD Advocacy Manager – manage advocacy efforts in MD. Duties are to recruit and support volunteers to share advocacy initiatives at the state and county level. Most projects and local initiatives already have a long standing advocate. The ability to listen, communicate, work with teams and encourage volunteers is desirable. The volunteer is not expected to attend every advocacy meeting, rather build a network of advocates to share passion for advocacy issues. Please understand, advocacy can take a long time before results are materialized.
- VA Advocacy Manager – manage advocacy efforts in VA.
- Ride Coordinator – manage ride calendar and coordinate ride leader activities. Supporting current ride leaders is critical to this volunteer position. Most trails have formal or informal ride leaders and rides. Primary duties include identifying addition rides and ride leaders, collection of ride waivers and tracking ride information such as location, date, leader, riders and duration for reporting purposes. The new calendar function on the MORE webpage helps simplify ride coordinator duties.
- Trail Boss – manage trail work calendar and coordinate work team activities. Supporting trial liaisons is critical to this volunteer position. Most trails have one or more trail liaisons to share workload. Primary duties are securing tools for trail work and collection of trail work sign-in sheets for tracking purposes. MORE has invested in “Track-it-Forward” software to help organize and track trail workday activities. This volunteer will also help identify when new tools are needed and may assist aggregate order and delivery of tools.
- Grant writer – help trail liaisons and BoD’s identify and apply for grants. Primary duties include writing grant applications in coordination with trail liaisons or BoD’s. Grant writing is becoming increasingly important as we attempt to diversify our revenue streams to support building trails and bike riding programs.
- Communications Volunteer – This person would assist MORE in generating content for the MORE website, providing updates to MORE social media platforms, assisting in the development of marketing material, and creating quarterly (or more frequent) Trailhead news
