MOCO Epic 2016 Recap
The 7th edition of the MORE MoCo Epic continued to highlight new trails built with support from the event proceeds. “Going big in your backyard” has new meaning as we bumped up the mileage, again, in 2016.
Ten Mile Creek added over 6 new miles of MoCo Flow to the already impressive inventory of trail within Montgomery County. Riders on the 25, 55 & 75 mile courses were treated to this new trail that hugs the western shores around Little Seneca Lake. Riders on the 40 Mile course saw improvements to their route as well with several re-routes along the Muddy Branch trail to improve sustainability, and flow. These improvements, combined with reversing the course for the first time, gave riders a new look at this classic MORE event.
Hurricane Mathew brought enough rain to bump the Family Fun Day activities until Sunday, creating some logistical challenges. However, our team of incredible volunteers and sponsors rallied and seamlessly adapted to the combined format. Sunny skies and consistent wind made for incredible trail conditions that surprised many of the participants. The MoCo Team, however, knew we would be in for another amazing day.
What a day it was! The early morning clouds gave way to bluebird skies. Upon their return, riders settled in with friends and family to share their combined experiences. The Mothership had plenty of room as the majority of participants opted to soak in the rays while getting refreshments, playing at the bike park, having their picture taken, or simply enjoying the camaraderie of our cycling community.
We hope to see you on October 7th & 8th, 2017, for the 8th edition of the MoCo Epic. We have some nice things cooking already. As usual, we’ll be riding bikes ALL DAY LONG!
