Action Alert: Weigh In on Baltimore County Recreation Plan

Two opportunities for mountain bikers in Baltimore County!

First, Baltimore County is seeking public input on its Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan (LPPRP). The plan helps the County identify future park improvements and ensure that open spaces continue to support community health, wellness, and recreational opportunities for all residents.

Second, the County purchased 110 acres in the Windsor Mill Area in Western Baltimore County and is looking to develop the land for recreation. The public input period for the LPPRP, which runs until May 15, is the perfect time to let the County know that we want mountain bike-optimized trails and facilities such as skills areas, gravity lines, and a pump track in Windsor Mill. This parcel (located at 7800 Dogwood Rd Windsor Mill, MD) is close to the Pickall and Hollofield areas of Patapsco Valley State Park and could be a great complement to the existing cross-country trails in the area.

The opportunity to provide input on the LPPRP only happens every five years, so it’s important that we make our voices heard.

How can you weigh in on the LPPRP?

  1. Answer this public input survey by the Department of Recreation and Parks. In Question 20, indicate that you’d like to see mountain bike-optimized trails and facilities like a skills area, gravity lines, pump track, etc.

  1. Speak at one of the public input meetings. No need to register, just show up.

    • May 12 (Tuesday), 6 to 7 p.m. in Sparrows Point Park

    • May 13 (Wednesday), 6 to 7 p.m. in the Banneker Community Center
