MORE Board of Directors Meeting

November 18, 2024

 

Attendance: Casey Anderson, Dave Magill, Clay Deming, Rob Lowe, Kathy Mihm, Michael Ullmann, Jali Fernando

Guests: Ernie Rodriguez, Pat Childers

 

Pat and Julie Childers – Trails for Youth Organization update

  • TYO closing at the end of the year
  • $20,000 donation from TYO geared towards Brookfield Park, ramps, etc.
  • Pat to continue as Brookfield Trail Liaison and will work on connector trail to CCT/Accotink/Wakefield. Will run a Brookfield sMORE’s program
  • Waiting on Fairfax County Parks Authority for directive. Casey to reach out to FCPA to see status on Brookfield connector trail.

 

Executive Director Report

  • Elections – Reach out to potential Activities Directors
  • Explore working with Sploosh MTB on marketing materials for 2025. Budget of $3,000 to go towards ride and trail work videos.


Financial update

  • Board approved motion to allocate $7,000 of MoCo Epic proceeds to West MoCo trail fund

 

Membership update c/o Rob

  • October 2024 positive vs. Last year. Doing better than expected
  • 34 joins
  • 93 renewals, 22 short renewals, 9 middle renewals, 22 long renewals

 

Virginia Trails c/o Michael

  • Two new miles added in Andrew Leitch Park this year.
  • Prince William County holiday fundraiser for Rollins Ford Pumptrack on December 9

Maryland Trails c/o Dave

  • Progress on trail connector between Annapolis Waterworks and Bacon Ridge
  • Mike Klasmeier has permission to flag trail on the Crownsville Memorial Park property
  • Rosaryville kickoff meeting for the $160,000 grant with Park Service and Mike Moses (liaison).
  • Casey asked for a meeting with Secretary Kurtz of DNR for an update to the TTF rule and indemnification on trail projects
  • Shawn Punga is the new liaison at The Pit in Fairland. Trail work day on December 7.

 

Ride Program c/o Kathy

  • Night ride permits on Montgomery County trails set up
  • Potential new ride leaders coming on board in 2025
  • Jali to include a note on night rides in the newsletter

Activities Program c/o Clay

  • Clay to ramp up MORE awards preparations in December
  • February 22 – Winter Membership Meeting. Clay looking for speakers.

    • Assisting in Board nominations and elections
    • Coordinated with Fairfax Parks Coalition on budget advocacy
    • Attended meeting with Frederick Watershed team and new Sheduro organizers
    • Managed Cobalt Bikes and Strider giveaways
    • Talked to Third Hill Brewing about potential 2025 MORE fundraiser
    • Help organize MORE Friends & Family Rides at MICL races
    • Coordinated with Cognative MTB for jersey sales
    • Attended VA Liaison call
    • Regular newsletter and social media posts

    • Coordinated board meeting and finalized minutes
    • Advocate for and advance Annapolis Flow Trail and Bacon Ridge/Waterworks Connector projects

    • Attended the Locust Shade PAW PAW Berms rebuild workday 
    • Phone call meeting with Pat Childers and Jali to discuss the Brookfield Pump Track 
    • Ongoing discussions with the James Long Trail Liaisons to help secure a GTF grant. 
    • Assisted Andrew Leitch liaisons who added approximately .8 in additional mileage at the trail.

    • Membership processing for October 2024

    • Set up numerous rides and assisted ride leaders with ride announcements
    • Lead rides at Cabin John trails
    • Mapping trails in Frederick area
    • MOCO epic wrap up 
    • Inquiry about new shed at SGBP
