Executive Director Report

  • Very busy month and weekend
  • On Saturday, cut two ribbons.
  • The first one in the morning was Prince George's County at Charles Branch. It is a five mile trail system between Rosaryville and Jug Bay. The idea is to be able to connect it to Rosaryville, and then it's a mile on the road to Jug Bay. The director of county parks rode a mountain bike at the event.
  • The second one was a ribbon cutting for the Brookfield and CCT connector trail. Now there are four trail systems that are connected by the CCT.
  • The entire weekend, we had 9 trailwork days at the same time, which is maybe the most I ever had.
  • Attended first one in two years DC. The new trail liaison lives right by one of the trail spurs and was able to get many neighbors to join. There's a group that's organizing a Juneteenth half marathon that linked up and got NPS to give them some tools. Really good turnout. All seven miles are likely now clear, except for some large trees.
  • Last thing, had a very good call with Visit Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Reached out in response to an email about the AACo Epic. Got on a call in not just promoting the epic, but as a more long term partnership with MORE since Annapolis is a trail town.
    • Haven't done much yet, but want to do more because just been pushing water activities. They want to promote mountain biking, trail running, and hiking.
    • Told them for this year the AACo Epic is a pilot event, what the reception is, how difficult is it to make it a bigger event.
    • Next year very interested in sponsoring, getting media, etc.
    • Also talked about getting local businesses and hotels.
    • Also mentioned that we do regular trailwork days and asked if they wanted to push it to corporate volunteer groups.
    • Told them we do this in Montgomery County and they were very curious what the county involvement is, which is they help with permits, give us discounts, etc. Help get word out.

Financial Update

  • Dave
    • We are gearing up to spending money on capital projects and you can see it in the numbers.
    • It's been our goal for many years to draw down amount in restricted funds. It's good process.
    • We also had another month with negative general funds, but it's not a big negative and we have plenty of cushion.

Membership Update

  • Overall Picture
    • Year-to-date revenue is running behind last year — $38,000 in 2026 vs. $39,942 in 2025, a deficit of approximately $1,942.
    • May was a strong month overall, with solid performance in both renewals and new joins. The club nearly reached peak membership numbers, exceeding last year in some categories while trailing in a few others.
    • The year-to-date revenue gap narrowed to just under $2,000 (pre-IMBA fee), reflecting meaningful progress in closing the deficit.
    • Total membership reached 2,042, nearly the club's all-time high, excluding the NICA-driven spike of 92 members last year; at one point during the month the count was as high as the low 2,050s.
    • A small but emerging trend of members moving away from auto-renew has been noted and will be monitored as the year progresses.
  • Membership Counts
    • Total membership stands at 2,042 (combining 26 new and 2,016 current members), roughly flat compared to April and March 2026, and down slightly from 2,134 last year.
    • Lapsed/expiring members for May and April 2026 total 134, compared to 142 last year. This is a good sign.
  • Monthly Activity (May 2026)
    • New joins came in at 26, above last year's 25 figure of 21.
    • Renewals were strong across all categories: 123 near-term (N/A, under 15 days), 16 short-term (15 days to 3 months), 4 mid-term (3–6 months), and 40 long-lapsed (6+ months).
    • Large donors (over $100) totaled 38, contributing $5,350 — up from 39 donors last year.
  • Paid Membership & Value
    • 1,484 of 2,042 total members are paid within the last 12 months, with an estimated pre-IMBA-share value of $96,000.
    • Auto-renewing annual members total 888 (621 paying), generating approximately $41,200/month ($51,700 annualized); the annual cohort is slightly down from 625 last year to 621 this year.
    • Auto-monthly members stand at 94 (down 1 for the month), generating $875/month ($10,500 annually, or about $111.70 per member).
  • June 2026 Early Look (as of June 8)
    • 57 memberships recorded so far, generating $1,730 in value — tracking against 177 members and $6,975 at this point last year, so June is running well behind the prior-year pace.

Trails

Virginia (Michael U)

  • We had a good event on Saturday – a ribbon cutting for the connector trail from Brookfield to CCT. Very good turnout, including government officials and elected representatives.
  • O'Sullivan
    • Wakefield – at this point, paid Brock for half of the work. This work is underway.
    • Lake Fairfax – paid Brock as well for work for an in-between jump line between blue and black lines. Half of that project has been completed.
    • James Long – Their jump is different than all others because they are focusing on using rock for takeoff for jumps so it's sustainable. Had person with excavator moving dirt around.
    • Locust Shade – New line will be open before ride series, with about 1 mile of new trail
    • Fountainhead – Jeffery has been doing a ton of maintenance work
    • Edgar Tillet – seen approval from Loudoun County and gave

Maryland (Dave M)

  • Don't have an update on the Frederick Pumptrack.
    • Jali: They have not broken ground. The builder is ready to go and they are waiting for one more permit to begin.
  • Brunswick is on hold because they want to use Andrew Mueller and he couldn't fit them in.
  • In MoCo, built the sidewalk, Brock came up and toured reroutes that need to be done to get trail in good shape. 10 miles of trail were officially opened this week. Scheduling team to build large bridges by July 6.
    • A shed will be built at Schaeffer soon.
    • We have various kind of signage regarding horses, etc.
    • There is a very dangerous road crossing with 1 foot wide gap in railing
    • Led a ride on the Seneca Bluffs and Seneca Greenway, which was fabulous and had a very good time.
  • At Cosca, Austin Steo has had an idea for a long time for 4 miles of additional trail at Cosca. Good place to build an adaptive loop.

Ride Program Update (Kathy)

  • It is pretty quiet. Helping getting rides set up
  • Have a skills clinic set up for this weekend

Events Update (Maris)

  • Been attending MoCo Monday Night Rides
  • Our first picnic is coming up this month at Locust Shade
  • Planning to potentially do a ribbon cutting for the Pit. Want to do a big event.
  • Hashawha Hill Fest
    • Attended
    • There were 30 people registered for event and attendance did not keep up
    • Jali and I have spoken with him. There are a couple facets of the event.
    • One was the dropped attendance. We don't want to have events put on with effort where not enough people show up. People put money and effort behind things, and low attendance can be a problem.
    • When I went and looked at the agenda prior to the event, it turned out that he changed some things and added some things to the agenda, including religious worship event.

Secretary – David Beugelmans

  • Coordinated board meeting and finalized minutes
  • Continue work on CHMP planning and started work
  • Assisted with “Trail Town” news releases
  • Assisted with planning for AACo Epic

MD Advocacy Director – Dave Magill

  • Attended Charles Branch Ribbon Cutting
  • Showed Brock three reroutes on Greenway, he will submit final bid soon
  • Organizing support for Pax phase 2a among other non-profits
  • Trimming and training new volunteers in trimming
  • Worked with Jali to announce the opening to bike of the Greenway trail
  • Sent Rosaryville IFB and all attachments to SHA for final review, target date to launch is July 11

VA Advocacy Director – Michael Ullman

  • Attended Brookfield Connector Trail Ribbon Cutting 6/6/26
  • Attended a work day at Brookfield 5/30/26
  • Attended/participated virtually in various meetings regarding potential Ebike legislation in PW County and the City of Haymarket
  • O'Sullivan updates:
    • Wakefield work completed
    • Locust Shade work on Col de Shade bypass underway. Awaiting approval for 95th street addition
    • James Long Park: Jumpline work has started. Rock has been moved to the jump line and they are close to completed with the Black Line. Green and Blue line will be completed in the future
    • Lake Fairfax: work on the new jump line is ongoing. Awaiting approval to build new section near the Cricket fields.
    • Fountainhead awaiting approval
    • Edgar Tillet approval provided, working on the logistics for dirt staging.
