Executive Director Report (Jali)
- We just finished the ride and picnic at Patuxent. Wanted to give a shout-out to Maris. Worked really hard to get it done. Whole point of why we wanted to rotate picnic venues to show where MORE is investing in trails and promote new areas.
- Turning out to be a busy August, with two partner races that invite MORE to table at their events.
- First is Little Bennett Dog Days, which is this Sunday
- Cranky Monkey is at the end of the month at Rosaryville. Hoping to get others to table at those events.
- For MORE events, we have a new coach to teach drops and jumps. Asked to do a clinic and we are facilitating it. Filled spots very quickly. Will donate all funds to Windy Ridge and MORE. There is clearly a demand for this.
- Lake Accotink Event – longer rides will loop into Wakefield
- That weekend, we are also going to do interviews with liaisons. It’s when IMBA will be in to get footage.
- IMBA is doing video features of their high-functioning organizations. Chose MORE as one of those groups. The theme is how we are able to manage 1,000 miles of trails. Looking at liaison model, volunteers working on trails, etc.
- Lastly, for MoCo Epic, we are in a good place in that we are all good with aid stations and sponsors with naming rights for rides, starting to do sponsor features on social media.
- What we need more of is people signing up. Behind on numbers from 1 or 2 years ago.
- In terms of marketing, mailed posters to all our bike shop partners. Reached out to liaisons in MoCo, been mailing some to liaisons as well, mailed a bunch to Todd Bauer. We need to spread the word.
- A rim set will be donated that we can auction off.
- Shenandoah Mountain Touring, which is organizing the SM100 race, is donating something, such as a cabin, etc.
- We have some good prizes.
Financial Update (Neil)
- The biggest thing for the month that’s out of the ordinary is most of the revenue/expenses for the AACo Epic, with the net slightly less than $4,000 – a good result for a new event
- There was MoCo Epic revenue from sponsorships, about $4,000
- There were some significant donations this month – $2,100
- Some miscellaneous expenses, but nothing of note
- Kathy – idea of continuing to push items in the MORE store on social media and the weekly updates.

Trails
- Virginia (Michael)
- Quantico event – idea of maybe organizing a MORE event there as current organizers age out. An epic event wouldn’t work anywhere else in Northern Virginia
- Jali: The answer for why we don’t do more epics is it’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of staff time
- We are working with Prince William County for approval on Locust Shade project.
- The Edgar Tillett Trail, we are ready to go. Loudoun County is reaching out. Just waiting on Brock to walk the site
- James Long – should have three jump lines. Did one jump line.
- Fountainhead – in limbo pending approvals
- Lake Fairfax – did part of their jump line and waiting on approval on the final piece they are doing
- Quantico event – idea of maybe organizing a MORE event there as current organizers age out. An epic event wouldn’t work anywhere else in Northern Virginia
- Maryland (Dave M.)
- We are in the middle of summer, so more about riding and trimming than anything big
- We are making progress on some of the projects; others have gone quiet
- On the Hill Street Pumptrack, SHA has gone silent and they won’t answer any questions
- The Greenway, we are getting ready to build three big bridges, sidewalk is done, Brock is coming in to do reroutes. Pinging him to see when he’s going to get here.
- Rosaryville just posted the invitation for bids for that big project
- Schaeffer has a new shed with lots of equipment. Great to see 75 kids out doing NICA race training.
- Hashawa team seems very busy. They did a bunch of signage work.
Ride Program Update (Kathy)
- Things are just rolling. Have rides set up.
- There is a new women’s ride in West Virginia, so leading some rides there. Beginner friendly.
- There is some interest for a new ride leader in Little Bennett.
Events Update (Maris)
- People get excited for merch at events. Great way to make passive income for the organization.
- Patuxent Ride
- We had an awesome turnout. We put in a lot of work, but it was worth it. Tons of people were happy to be there.
- About 75% of people indicated it was their first time riding those trails
- Built potluck into registration. We had so much food at the last event.
- Some of the equestrian community came to the event at the end.
- Everybody was raving about how good the trails are. People were surprised by how fun and flowy they are.
- Have another event in Accotink at the end of the month, and another one at Lake Fairfax at the bike lane
- Also have a campout coming up.
- Also emailing about the holiday lights ride in Gaithersburg. This event attracts a lot of people outside of the MORE community.
