Rides

After much consideration, MORE is not holding the MoCo Epic this year in order to keep the community safe. This year, we’ve created a region-wide virtual event offering riders a chance to discover and do epic rides at MORE trails across Maryland and Northern Virginia. We’ve thrown in a little friendly competition and prizes to keep it interesting and reward participants who explore and ride the most! Whether you are an experienced rider, an endurance athlete, or someone new to riding we have something for you.

The virtual event will occur from September 1 through October 31 and we want you to ride and explore throughout the entire two months. We’ll provide participants at least 40 routes, many of which were selected by Trail Liaisons and MORE members as their favorite ways to experience a trail system. Rides will cover between 3 and 35 miles, with many in between. We'll highlight everything from the aggressive rocky terrain of the Frederick Watershed to the fun, flowy trails at Laurel Hill. If you're looking to spend the whole day riding MoCo Trails or looking for a family-friendly afternoon ride we've got you covered!

By providing GPS tracks for ‘Epic Rides’ (as well as family-friendly and beginner rides) we hope you will take rides on your own, with members of your family, or in small groups (following all recommended CDC and local guidelines). MORE volunteers have created and actively maintain some of the best trails in the country – this is your chance to see them all and be recognized for your accomplishment!

Of course, we ask that you support our trails and our parks, by ‘leaving no trace’ and respecting hikers and equestrians on the trails. In the spirit of the MoCo Epic this is an epic ride event, not a race.

IMPORTANT INFO

These rides are UNSUPPORTED. There will be no aid stations or SAG wagon. Review courses before you ride and be prepared.

Raffles

All participants will be automatically entered into the MORE Trails raffle with a chance to win great prizes from our sponsors, with the option of purchasing additional tickets after registration.

Here’s a select list of prizes we currently have lined up. Check back often as we’ll be adding more up to and throughout the event.

- Kuat Racks (2)

- REI Camp Chairs (2)

- Specialized 24oz Big Mouth Waterbottles (100!)

In addition to the above, we'll also have a few locally themed prize packs to award based on submitted rides at specific trails systems. We're thinking of prizes like gift cards for a cold drink or food from local restaurants and breweries, but nothing is finalized yet as we are still organizing sponsors.

Recognition

To keep it interesting we'll provide a simplified system for tracking your efforts and we'll recognize the riders who truly make this an epic experience. We'll recognize first, second, and third place for most mileage*, most unique routes* and most elevation* tracked on the MORE Trails included in the event. We expect some surprises – so we'll recognize those too. Stay tuned.

Wait, I'm paying for GPS routes? NO - you're helping support trails and build community! You're out riding your bike! Maybe you can win great prizes!

MORE Trails is a fundraiser to support our trail systems. MORE funds go to maintain existing trails, and to build new trails and skills areas at YOUR local parks.
